As if to compensate for the scant rainfall in the last winter, the heavy rains in the beginning of this March came quite unexpectedly.
Though it is spring, I know there really isn’t much to see in the bare valley. Mixed with the dead brown stalks from last year was this year’s emerging new grass. Looking from afar, it looks like a man’s bald top peppered with a few struggling hairs. But at least the air was crisp, as we strolled on a loop trail last Saturday. And swaying in the wind were some wild oats, short but heavily bristled with spikelets, in defiance of dryness.
A newly found nursery within the familiar park amazed us. Tucked in the depth of the park, this expansive acres of nursery is like a gem in the bustling city. Blended into this natural setting are modern designs, neatly simple and bright. What impressed us most are the seemingly common succulent plants being artistically displayed in a pot, tailoring to perhaps high-end buyers, as it costs as high as $300 for a pot.
回复 '魏薇' 的评论 : 谢谢魏薇的阅读和谬赞,跟专业差千万里,这个多肉植物贵在缸和摆设上,有些多肉家里也有,不过很零乱就是了。
Thanks for your co-writing:)
Your first sentence using a noun to replace a phrase (=to compensate) is actually better than mine. So a pair of fresh eyes make(s,?) the difference.
The word "scatter“ is a good word too, to replace "pepper".
The air was crisp, swaying in the wind were some wild oats, short but heavily bristle with spike lets, in defiance of dryness.
-- Better separate into two sentences with a period in between (before “Swaying”).
Tucking in the depth of the park, the extended a few acres of land likes a gem in the bustling city.
-- Grammatically, "tucked" is the correct word, as " it is tucked in the depth of the park", thus using passive voice is better.
As if a compensation for the scant rainfall of last winter, A heavy rain came unexpectedly in the beginning of March.
Last Saturday we strolled on a loop trail. Spring is here, but the valley was far from lavishness. Looking at the ground beside my feet, the land was covered with this year’s newly grass and dead brown stalks from last year. Looking afar, the valley looked like a man’s bald top scattering with a few unhealthy hairs. The air was crisp, swaying in the wind were some wild oats, short but heavily bristle with spike lets, in defiance of dryness.
A newly found nursery in the familiar park amazed us. Tucking in the depth of the park, the extended a few acres of land likes a gem in the bustling city. Blended in this natural setting are contemporary works. The works are uncomplicated but beautiful. What impressed us most are the succulent plants, they are seemingly common, but since being artistically displayed in a pot, it is label at US300 a pot. Obviously the target customers are rich people.

回复 '7grizzly' 的评论 : Hi, my friend, thanks for reading and encouragement. It took me at least an hour to write this three paragraphs:)) Unlike you, you could produce at least one post a week easily:))
I just consulted the dictionary. The word "bristle" is used intentionally as a verb (not a noun) here, but I should have added -ed at the end. So the correct expression should be "short but heavily bristled with .." I am actually not very sure, as this is the first time using the word in this way. But I can definitely keep an eye in the future reading.
Thanks for reading and commenting again!
