We used to live and work in a remote town, where there were only a few Chinese families, and I was the only Asian in the work place. We developed very close relationship with co-workers and their families. Kids played together, and we mingled often out of work.
After moving to the big city, where there are many many Chinese families, and even at work-place, a large percentage of staff are Chinese. Well, we cluster with Chinese families, and at work, talk and joke more with Chinese co-workers. We strongly feel that the school environment of big cities is much better for the emotional development of our kids.
Now we are dreaming of a China clean of smog, and we can go back there to retire - full happiness can only be achieved in the soil you grew up in. Judging by the total disappearance of Japanese immigrants in the US, fewer Chinese will seek going out to live if the economic and environmental situations improve further.
