Response to Zhao

---by 步非烟[ Bu Fei Yan, pen name], Tang Dynasty. She was a concubine of a militant official in He Nan province. Falling in love with a neighboring young man, she exchanged poems with him. He sometimes climbed over the walls to see her, who was locked in the official’s compound. When their affair was found out, she was beaten to death. Four poems of hers survived to this day.

Even the moths
Surviving in green
Shadows
Cannot help
Fighting
To live

Regret & anger
Can only be felt
In the newly
Penned poems

I wish
The heart of man
Would echo the soul
Of poignant
Music

Love in spring
Deeper and deeper
Growing out
Of the earth
Out of you 
Out of  me
