On south hill, a bird doth reside,

On north hill, a still snare spreads wide.

Alas, the bird hath taken wing,

In vain the snare, though it full tried.

Ah, I did long to follow thee,

Alack, slanders rose in ill-glee.

Grief and ire render me so ill,

Fie, the yellow earth consumed me.

Woe is me; my fate was ill-made,

Why grudge? Sith a spade is a spade?

The queen of all clans of feathers,

Hight phoenix — her bright accolade.

Ah, once she lost her beloved beau,

Three years she’d drown in lonely woe.

Though birds of every clan attend,

On none her deep love would bestow.

Likewise, though so lowly I am,

You are my sunshine sith you came.

Though torn apart, my love goeth on,

 I’ll ne’er forget thee, not a dram!
