很巧，在BYU生物系里有个博士后，J. Buhay，从密苏里大学圣路易斯大学（University of Missouri-St. Louis；UMSL）毕业，我们算是UMSL的同事，也是BYU的同事。她的博士后导师是发表生物亲缘学里非常重要的model test（模型选择）的作者之一KeithCrandall（另一位是Crandall的西班牙博士后D. Posada），32分之一的印第安血统，在美国申请经费有照顾。Buhay在BYU必须教学，她教授的一门课叫《进化Evolution》。我当时很好奇，你怎么跟摩门教徒教授进化论啊？他们可是比一般的基督徒可能还保守，怎么接受进化论呢？她的回答，我觉得很风趣，因为简单粗暴。她说，她第一天上课就给学生们说：“In my class, forget about creationism (忘掉神创论)! All organisms evolved and are evolving (所有生物都是进化来的，而且都在进化)”。我当时听了，吓一大跳。在这么保守的大学的课堂上，居然敢这样讲课！让我更惊讶的是，她说，在学生们中间她并没遇到多少阻力，更没遇到对进化论有力的挑战。
除了进化论，他们面对的还有很多可能跟他们长大后了解的完全不同的东西。比如，枪杀柯克的Tyler Robbinson就对同性恋没有恶意、甚至爱恋，对柯某的仇恨言论不满，对自己父亲作为一个die-hard MAGA member（霉咖死党）不屑。这些都是与Tyler的传统家庭教育矛盾的。这巨大成长中的落差是不是就是Tyler枪杀柯克的原因，加上自幼玩枪，家里枪支无数？
