I read two articles about school and veterans on “Bucks County Herald” November 7, 2024. Barbara gave me the newspaper.
1) (A) The Bucks County Community College Foundation's ( BCCCF ) biennial fundraising gala , Celebrating Student Success , is set for Saturday , Nov. 16 .
The event will raise funds for the Bucks Student Emergency Fund , while also honoring the Michael G. Fitzpatrick Foundation for its enduring contributions to the Bucks community .
The gala will take place in the historic Tyler Hall Mansion and its surrounding Tyler Gardens on the Newtown Campus . The night's festivities will include a cocktail hour , seated dinner , live music and dancing , headlined by the return of the award -winning nine-piece Uptown Band . Guests will also have the chance to participate in auctions , with prizes up for grabs throughout the evening .
Proceeds from the event will support the Bucks Student Emergency Fund , which provides micro-grants to students facing unexpected financial hardships . The grants , which have helped more than 240 students to date , cover essential expenses such as food , auto repairs and emergency child care , ensuring students can stay on track toward their academic goals . The inaugural gala in 2022 raised over $ 90,000 , and the foundation hopes to exceed that amount this year .
This year's event will include a special presentation titled " Michael G. Fitzpatrick : The Man and His Legacy . " The presentation will highlight the late congressman's deep com- mitment to serving his community , and how the Fitzpatrick Scholars at Bucks Community College continue his legacy of public service .
Tickets , sponsorships and additional information can be found at celebratingstudentsuccess.com .
(B) I think: It's good and not easy for a gala to raise $90,000 to help 240 students in need. In the United States, I also saw notices posted on the streets about fire department ‘Dinner’. My neighbor told me that was to raise funds. Our residents committee has a 50/50 raffle event, which also raises funds for the residents committee.
These doesn’t seem to exist in China .
2) (A) A memoir written by Warwick resident Col. Rick Kieman. U.S Army (Retired), is available on Amazon.
"The Best is Yet to Come, The Memoir of a Peaceful Warrior”, which reached No. I on Amazon Books, details years of service beside what he fondly calls a "band of brothers," where going to work was like being with family.
Kieman is a former infantry officer. paratrooper and public affairs officer who served in Vietnam and the first Gulf War. Further assignments included Germany,Alaska, Hawaii and the Pentagon, where he served as chief spokesman during Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Storm. In 1991, he led the last U.S. delegation to the former Soviet Union to assist The Kremlin with its media relations program.
As a public affairs officer he has been the editor of the infartry magazine, host of a public television show and managing editor of three weekly newspapers. Upon his Army retirement, Kieman spent the next 15 years assisting emerging democracies with their initiatives toward freedom as the senior vice president with MPRI, a private militry company.
(B) I think: In the United States, veterans are highly respected. Every November, there is a national Veterans Day. Photos of veterans are hung on the street lamp posts near me. In China, there are veterans protesting for their rights!
