7月17日凌晨1时许，受四川广元、绵阳等地出现的强降雨影响，嘉陵江特大洪峰直逼阆中古城。从凌晨开始，每秒11000立方米的洪峰抵达古城，滔滔洪水直线上升。江水在3小时左右上升10余米，是近30年之最，所幸没有人员伤亡。
