据凤凰卫视报道，美国总统特朗普于9月25日签署一项总统备忘录，批准在华盛顿执行死刑。

他还开玩笑称，华盛顿是“死刑首都”。特朗普强调，华盛顿已经连续四周没有出现死亡案件，“从全美最危险的城市变成最安全的城市”。

美国司法部长邦迪表示，她希望死刑可以推行至全国范围。邦迪还补充说，美国前总统拜登赦免的犯人已被转移至最高安全级别监狱，他们会“像在死囚牢房里一样度过余生”。
