美国东南部海伦飓风（Helene）近期袭击美国东南部，造成百万人断电与土石流，摧毁了道路和桥樑，并从佛州到维吉尼亚州引发严重洪灾。自昨（29日）开始，各州政府开始大规模的清理和恢复工作，死亡人数已上升自至少90人。

据路透社报导，海伦飓风的强风、暴雨在北卡罗来纳州、南卡罗来纳州、乔治亚州、佛罗里达州、田纳西州和维吉尼亚州至少造成90人死亡。死亡人数更可能不断上升。

由于部分地区的行动通信基地台倒塌，数百人仍无法与亲人取得联繫，被列为失联状态。保险公司和预测机构在週末表示，损失估计范围从150亿美元（约4750亿新台币）到超过1000亿美元（约3兆1000亿新台币）不等，排水系统、通信和交通路线都受到影响。

北卡罗来纳州出现30人死亡，灾区更需向州政府申请紧急食物和饮用水。此外，电力中断，人们需排队等待数小时加油。“杂货店关门了，手机信号也没了，”62岁的市民弗兰克（Chip Frank）在排队等了三个小时后表示。“现在全看这些加油站了。如果没有油，哪裡也去不了，这感觉真是可怕”。
