厄瓜多尔日前宣布将不再允许中国人免签证访问，不少专家和记者认为这一新政策将很大程度影响试图通过该国“走线”进入美国的中国“走线客”。
厄瓜多尔星期二(6月18日)宣布暂停与中国签署的一项面向中国公民的免签证协议，理由是非法移民数量“令人担忧”地增加。
厄瓜多尔外交部在一份声明中表示，双边协议的暂停将于7月1日开始。声明说，当局发现大约50%进入厄瓜多尔的中国公民没有“通过正常途径”或在免签协议允许的90天内离开该国。
“厄瓜多尔是许多尝试经由墨西哥进入美国的中国政治避难者的始发点。” “连线中国”（The Wire China）的记者艾伦·尼古拉斯（Aaron Mc Nicholas）在前身为推特的社交媒体平台X上写道。

中国外交部发言人林剑星期二(6月18日)在例行记者会上表示，北京“坚决反对任何形式的偷渡活动”，中国执法部门“对各种偷渡组织、从事偷渡活动的不法分子保持严打高压态势”。
林剑说，中国还一直在与其他国家合作，“联合打击跨境偷渡活动，遣返偷渡人员，共同维护国际间人员交流交往秩序。”
华盛顿非政府组织“美国移民协会”（America Immigration Council）的政策主任艾伦·雷克林-梅尔尼克（Aaron Reichlin-Melnick）认为，美国政府或许在这个政策变化上发挥了作用。
“很可能是美国和区域中其他国家的压力导致的，” 他写道。“这将会很大程度上降低中国移民抵达西半球的能力。”

随着美中双边关系趋于稳定，北京已恢复与华盛顿的合作，以遣返非法滞留美国的中国公民。

厄瓜多尔是美洲仅有的两个对中国公民提供免签入境的大陆国家之一。另一个提供免签的国家是苏里南共和国。
非营利机构太平洋协会（The Pacific Council）成员乔·莫斯切拉（Joe Moschella）认为，从苏里南“走线”将会遇到困难。 “这条路将更长，也没有既定的支持途径，但永远不要低估想要离开当下政权的中国人”。

日经亚洲（Nikkei Asia）的记者周梦媛也认为，厄瓜多尔的签证政策调整不会完全关闭中国移民前往美国的路径，但等待他们的困难不仅是“走线”本身。
