北京奥运会火炬接力将以“和谐之旅”为主题，以“点燃激情 传递梦想”为口号，前往五大洲(国家、地区)的21个城市，并在境内31个省、自治区和直辖市传递，还将抵达世界最高峰――珠穆朗玛峰。传递时间为130天，传递总里程约13.7万公里。北京奥运会火炬接力将是奥运史上传递路线最长、传递范围最广、参与人数最多的一次火炬接力，将在奥林匹克运动史上谱写辉煌的篇章......

据香港文汇报报道，杨千嬅是唯一一位香港演艺界代表负责澳门区的奥运圣火传送的火炬跑手，她传递的是第16棒，于3日下午4时15分左右跑200米路程，千嬅接棒时精神抖擞，笑容满脸，但她起步却跑得太快，要由身旁的保安人员提醒她要跑慢一点。事后千嬅大赞是光宗耀祖。
杨千嬅是澳门区火炬手代表之一，其父母也专程去为她打气，可惜由于站错了等候的位置，以致其父母看不到她拿着火炬一刻的跑姿，令两老也感失望。
千嬅表示接棒一刻心情相当兴奋，而且百感交集，自觉似是疯癫了一般，似当年港姐冠军林良惠得奖时的兴奋，但千嬅笑说：“我接棒后口里只顾不停地叫‘中国加油’，也想不到会跑得太快，只听到旁边的人在叫我跑慢一点，跑完我都后悔自己跑得太快！”不过跑完后千嬅心情仍未平复，坐于小巴上还将头伸出窗外向澳门市民挥手。

杨千嬅指日前她坐直升机到澳门去开会，晚上睡到凌晨5时突然扎醒，发觉出了一身冷汗，而临跑之前还在想是否化妆好，最后只化了个淡妆，但因天气热，她的妆最后也溶掉了。
千嬅笑指：“本来我想戴头箍免得头发乱飞，可是发觉加上头箍后，自己头好大，成个小露宝一样。”而香港区也是火炬手的陈奕迅，特意致电予千嬅，叫她“加油”外，也提醒她小心，不要绊倒，千嬅很感谢陈奕迅这么有心。
提到古巨基接上火炬时多次换手遭批评，千嬅则觉得可能当时基仔太过兴奋而已。
火炬摆家中大厅
有指杨千嬅是香港艺人，竟代表澳门传递火炬，身份有点不符？千嬅所知的是赞助商选出3个人让奥委会挑选，而她能代表澳门，也是因她曾当过澳门杰青大使以及参与过东亚运动会的开幕礼。
千嬅坦言这次当火炬手感觉着实很兴奋，也觉得澳门人好热情，所以感到好光荣。千嬅完成使命后会好好护送这支极具纪念性的火炬回家，她笑说：“坐船时我会一直保护着火炬。”至于火炬她准备摆放在家中大厅，因父母是传统的人，感觉这次她是光宗耀祖。
