Mr. Nick

Mr. Nick is a handsome young man in his early or mid twenties. He was the multi-classroom teacher first for Olivia and then for Evan in 2005, before he moved on to a primary school teacher position towards the end of the year. He seemed very nice and the kids all loved him. Olivia and Evan would mention him on the way back from daycare once in a while.

I did not have much personal interaction with Mr. Nick except saying “Hello” to him when I dropped Evan off in the morning.

One day last fall Mr. Nick stayed late and Evan was playing with him when I came to pick him up. Evan wanted a bye bye hug so Mr. Nick hugged him and gave him a kiss on the head.

Then we headed out to the parking lot. Right outside the daycare, on the way to our car, Evan suddenly said:

“Mommy, you did not kiss Mr. Nick.” Hmm…

“Why do I have to kiss Mr. Nick?”

“Because he loves you.” Realizing童言无忌, I still for some reason intuitively checked around us hoping nobody heard what he said.

“He does?”

“Yup.”

“Well…ah…I guess I love him too.” Okay, do I have to explain to him that this love is general love not the “mommy loves daddy” love?

Honey boy, I do not know what your little head was up to that day, but you’d better watch out what you are saying as you may just get your mommy in troubleJ.
