Fritz [1]

Hans Joachim Schädlich [2]

Translated by xia23

Fritz, the boy from the Vogtland [3] village, who was quiet, but cheerful, who loved to play alone, who was not liked by his father, who was sad, who could play the piano which he had not learned, who attached to his mother, who had no friend.

Fritz, the young man, wanted to be a pianist, but was not allowed, who became a store assistant because his father ordered him to work in his father’s store, who drove a motorcycle for his father’s goods across the country, who had a motorcycle accident, who did not love his father because he was a drinker and beat his mother.

Fritz, who no longer wanted to dress like a store assistant,  who no longer wanted to shave himself, who no longer wanted to go to his father’s office, who simply ran across the field, into the forest, who only came back in the dark and said nothing, who drove in the middle of winter without a coat and money, who was picked up by the police in the city of Munich, who was declared insane by his father, who was brought in an asylum by his father, in 1930.

Frits, the man, who had two different eyes, one bright and one dark, one gray and one brown, one distrustful and one innocent, who was all lunatic in the asylum, who was selected as a life without value, who was taken away to Hartheim Castle [4] near Linz [5] on the Donau, who was killed with gas in the castle, who was cremated in the oven in 1940, who was sent home in an urn to his mother and father.

Fritz, I no longer got to know about him, the other people told me about him.
