Job Title: Software Engineer

Responsibilities This is a position reporting into the Web Analytics team within the IMD Business Intelligence Solutions organization at eBay. The Software Engineer will be responsible for developing analytical applications that will drive key business insights. The engineer will be involved throughout the application lifecycle, from requirements gathering through to report delivery. Individual is expected to be a self-starter and team player, a strong driver for results and continuous improvement.
Responsibilities will include:
• Gather requirements from business partners and convert requirements to code, formatting report output into something digestible by business partners
• Formulate hypothesis about the data based on small sample queries and extrapolate findings to behavioral theories, validating them against ever larger data sets.
• Proactively tune processes to minimize execution times.
• Design processes to minimize data quality risks and proactively identify potential data issues.
• Prepare technical design documentation for review with Web Analytics team members.
• Prepare logical and physical data models for the new processes in collaboration with the Architecture and Business Analysis teams.
Job Requirements Applicants should meet a majority of the below criteria:
1) BS degree in CS or equivalent.
2) 3+ years experience in requirements analysis, design, coding, and testing of scalable, distributed, fault-tolerant applications.
3) Java, Perl, C/C++ or other programming experience.
4) Excellent communication, problem solving, and analytical skills, and a high degree of self-motivation.
5) Database system knowledge and good SQL skills. Experience with Teradata RDBMS is a plus.
6) Experience working in a UNIX environment. UNIX shell ing experience is a plus.
7) Experience working with complex data structures and algorithms.
8) Experience translating unstructured data into valuable analytical information.
9) Experince capturing and developing reporting requirements.
10) Familiarity with designing & coding for parallel platforms.
11) Experience with ETL tools (Ab Initio, Informatica, IBM DataStage, Microsoft DTS) is a plus.
12) Familiarity with web server log and click stream analysis is a plus.
13) Experience with revision control systems (e.g., CVS, ClearCase, Subversion, etc) is a plus.
