Song: Annie Laurie
Artist: Slim Whitman

Maxwelton Braes are bonnie where early fa's the dew
And it's there that Annie Laurie gied me her promise true
Gied me her promise true, which ne'er forgot shall be
And for bonnie Annie Laurie I would lay me doun and dee

Her brow is like the snaw drift, her neck is like the swan
Her face it is the fairest that e'er the sun shone on
That e'er the sun shone on and the dark blue is her e'e
And for bonnie Annie Laurie I would lay me doun and dee

"Annie Laurie" is an old Scottish song based on a poem by William Douglas . The words were modified and the tune was added by Alicia Scott in 1834.

Traditionally it is said that Douglas had a romance with Anne Laurie. Anna was the youngest daughter of Robert Laurie. The legend says that her father opposed the marriage. This may have been because Anna was very young.
