The New Zealand government does not have a nationwide law banning the feeding of wild birds, but authorities strongly advise against it due to health risks to birds and ecological disruption. While not illegal, local councils may restrict feeding if it creates nuisances, such as attracting pests or spreading disease.

Does New Zealand government forbid feeding animals?”
The New Zealand government does not have a blanket ban on feeding all animals, but it strictly forbids feeding specific items to certain livestock to prevent disease, such as feeding ruminant protein to sheep, cattle, or deer, and feeding untreated meat to pigs. Additionally, the public is advised against feeding wildlife to protect native species.
