My counter-argument then:

No one cares about Mao the person when talk about him. What people realy talk about is their lives. Mao has influnced their lives greatly, that is why they talk about Mao.

This argument still holds true, and holds true with any subject: Confucius, Buddha, Christ, God, or any sacred figures.
