If you can afford to go to USC for the expensive tuitions and apartments, you definitely can afford to buy a safe parking space. $100 monthly parking fee just so si! to safe that little money, but cost the precious lives. Worth it or not? Liu de qingshan zai, bu pa mei cai shao. Qian wang buya yi Xiao shi da you!
Mongolian: You are right. Thank you. I just learned English by myself, of course could have lots of errors and mistakes to Yi Xiao Dafang. But I am not able to type Chinese on my computer, and I am also not able to install a Chinese software on it. But, I like to talk like most teachers do ( I was a Chinese one previously). So I have to Yang Duan Bi Chang to use my unfamiliar foreign language to Xian Chou Le. I deem this is a good opportunity to practice my broken English. Anyway this is an English speak country.
I do not know why so many Chinese ( more than 30%) students like USC this expensive and unsafe private school. The USLA is located in Westwood, it 's much safe. The UCS.B. is very beautiful and safe. The US Berkley is famous and very safe. The USI, and UCS.A. are good schools and very safe. Even the Cal State Fullerton.
Ji and those poor couple who were all died outside of the campus. If their parents hire a lawyer to file a lawsuit to sue the USC, the judge would not favor them. Perhaps they just waste the money and time. But we have to learn the lessons from it. 1) Do not save that little parking lot fee. They can afford the $hundreds for the rents, why not spend $100 more to get a save parking space? This is really ridiculous as some one who can afford to buy a chicken, but who sais, "No. I do not have money to buy an egg." 2) Never walk alone on the streets by oneself, and never walk on the streets in the midnight( both tragedies took place around 1:00 am!), even you have friends walk together with you.
One major cultural difference between US and China is that individual is responsible for his/her own actions. Asking USC to make the neighborhood a safer place for students is one thing, each student needs be more aware of the environment he/she is in is another. The most important thing is to teach the international students to be more aware of the hidden danger.
Law suits based on raw emotion won't do any good for anyone.
One side note, I honestly don't think most of the Chinese students are not suited to study aboard. They have neither the willingness nor the skills to do so. On top the wasted money, the extreme unlucky ones lost their lives.
不相干的人,还是少说几句有的没的。
尤其美国当地的,你无法保证你不会遇到类似的事情。
