To meixin EnoughIsEnough***
I believe what you said about your parents is true, you are really lucky that your parents enjoy the life here in the US.
But the reported problem is also true, a high percentage (I would guess at least 30 percent) of Chinese senior people in the US have hard time adjusting to the US life style, and whether they are educated or not is not a main factor.
I know 5 senior couples who have given up green cards and returned to China, all of them are well educated and some of them can even speak reasonably good English. The reasons are different in each case, but I can give you a list of all the possible reasons as follows,
(1) Feel that the US life is too bored.
(2) Do not enjoy living with their kids permanently. The conditions of the US senior apartments are not as good as the conditions of their houses in China.
(3) Political reasons, some seniors feel like a second class citizens when they have to use the government's benefits for low income people. Their pride is hurt inside.
(4) Can not get along with son-in-law or daughter-in-law.
(5) Personality.
To be fair, I must admit that some seniors do feel happy. So let's not try to generalize either case.
BS meixin***My parents came to the US more than 10 years ago, they never felt the way these people felt. They loved America and they said the life here is like in Haven. My father passed away at the age 92, and mother is 91 lives in the US.
The US is not suitable for every one, you got to have some education background, or, you have not been brain washed too bad by the Gov. in China.
