As much as I feel for anyone in this position, something doesn't add up. She classes a 40 hour a week job and a 30 hour a week job as PART time?? Having worked with finance and benefits for years the figure of £1,400 a month doesn't seem right... Working on both parents working as said in the article and worst case scenario of being on the minimum wage, the wages alone come to £1,698 a month after deductions! Add child benefit and the Tax Credits they are entitled to onto that and its more like £2,100 a month. Simple maths and logic pulls this article apart I'm afraid. Sympathy for any family who have had to take a dip in their income because of redundancy but I'm sure they are families in much more severe circumstances who would have been better examples to use in a newspaper article
