Norma \'Casta Diva\'by Maria Callas and Sutherland

Casta Diva来自歌剧Norma，它是19世纪初意大利剧作家Bellini的作品。讲的是古罗马帝国时期，女祭司Norma违背神论爱上了不该爱的人，可惜她的痴心换来对方的薄意，他竟然爱上另外一个更年轻的女祭司。Casta Diva表现的就是Norma对女神的虔诚和她的心声：圣洁的女神啊，请赐于我们和平；亲爱的人啊，请回到我的身边。

Bellini是一个天才剧作家，26岁就在拿波里（Napoli）歌剧院上演自己的作品，并一举成名。此后几年他写下包括《诺玛》、《梦游女》在内的几部传世之作。后来他因为感情受挫，决意离开意大利进军巴黎。他在另一位著名剧作家Rossini的指导下，以《清教徒》一剧征服了口味挑剔的巴黎观众。可惜他等不到第99部作品才封笔，写完《清教徒》之后一年，年仅34岁的他就因为痢疾英年早逝。上帝只让他留9部作品给世人。这位薄命如莫扎特的天才虽然作品很少，但往后影响着另外两位歌剧大师威尔第（Verdi）和瓦格纳（Wagner），甚至肖邦和李斯特。

说到Norma，不得不说两位世界著名的女高音，一个是Maria Callas的，一个是Joan Sutherland的。Callas被誉为歌剧女神。她17岁就出演Puccini的名剧《托斯卡》。当时的美声唱法泛滥，歌手随意卖弄技巧，而Callas就将声音和舞台表演融合在一起，声音被赋予色泽，令人耳目一新。她的舞台表现力在歌剧发展史上是革命性的。她塑造的蝴蝶夫人、茶花女、诺玛（Norma）、费德里奥（Fidelio）等角色都一一成为经典，后来的女高音均难以逾越。Callas在美国大都会演出Norma，标志着她艺术上的高峰。 

“Everyone has his time.” 歌唱艺术家和运动员一样，都有一个事业的黄金时期，过了这个时期事业就可能会急速下滑，很快的从观众的视线里淡出。Callas在1958年罗马歌剧院演出Norma的失误，使她开始步入事业的低潮。这个时候她结识了希腊船王Onassis，两者感情发展迅速。不过对一个女高音来说，投到一个商贾巨富的怀抱不知是福是祸？在夜夜笙歌的社交生活中，她很少再去登台演出。1965年她在巴黎重演Norma时，竟被一初出茅庐的女高音抢过风头，这对她的打击非常致命。没有了“歌剧女神”光环的她开始失宠，1968年，船王Onassis抛弃了Callas与肯尼迪的遗孀杰奎琳结婚，轰动整个世界。而那边厢的Callas就伤心欲绝，几乎要自杀。

还有一事值得一提，Callas虽然出生于美国，但是双亲都是希腊移民，所以她把自己当作希腊人。这就是为什么在2004雅典奥运会上我们会听到她的声音。其实当时Callas已经逝世多年，奥运只是通过科技将她的歌声重现。1977年，在船王逝世一年之后，这位一代歌剧皇后也郁郁地离开了人世。

她的衣钵算是传给了Joan Sutherland。这两位女高音之间的故事也是与Norma有关。

Sutherland 1926年出生于澳大利亚，1952年就和Callas同台演出了Norma，她演的女友Clotilde。在演出Norma期间，Sutherland诚惶诚恐的向Callas求教，而Callas就鼓励她向花腔女高音发展。Sutherland的声音没有Callas的泼辣和野性，却也清亮剔透和淳厚，这可能跟她年轻时在悉尼音乐学院学女中音有关。她的声域很宽，能飘得很高，又能压到很低。1963年，她代替事业日渐式微的Callas出演Norma，从此接过了Callas“女高音王后”的头衔。Sutherland也一发不可收拾，在一次演出Lucia Di Lammermoor (《拉美莫尔的露契亚》)时观众竟然谢幕达三十多次！她从此也成为花腔女高音的典范，意大利唱法（Bel Canto）传统也因她发扬光大。1990年她在悉尼歌剧院完美谢幕，正式退出歌剧舞台。
