This is nothing but posturing. Is US willing to negotiate a treaty to cap aircraft carriers? How about ICBM, nuclear warheads? Long range bombers? Overseas military bases?
China is unlikely to agree to join the US for a pact restricting intermediate missiles. So we will soon see the US missiles in Japan, S Korea and other allies in Southeast Asia. The balance of military powers will be restored in Far East.
The INF treaty was signed by the US and the USSR in 1987 to ban intermediate range missiles, resulting in more safety to the world. China took advantage of it and produced massive stockpile of mid-range missiles in the past decades and used them to threaten its neighbors including Taiwan and Vietnam. Now China either needs to subject itself to a new treaty with the US and Russia, or be ready to face the deployment of US’ missiles. Either way, there is no more free pass for China.
