Well, that's why someone brought gas on and committed suicide there killing an innocent bystander with him. Wonder how long can this no-checking policy survives.

The first significant article praising China's High Speed Rail after Liu's fall was published in NY Times at 9/23/2013 by Keith Bradsher. Before that, almost no one said anything good about High Speed Rail probably because people were afraid of being accused as 5-mao. After the article, the accusing crowd suddenly shut up in WC. Now they surfaced again because they did not know this interesting history. Yes, it is this US reporter who shut up the original accusers (and possibly he never was aware of this).
It is not all about technology and convenience. It is also about the cost and who benefits from high speed train. Only the affluent Chinese can enjoy the train while hundreds of millions of the low income are all left behind. This is just one example demonstrating the sad reality of the income inequality in China.
