继星巴克被爆出的种族歧视风波,洛杉矶健身中心(L.A.
Fitness)在新泽西锡考克斯(Secaucus)一间分店也在16日传出员工报警驱赶2名黑人顾客的事件,且其中一名当事男子更是在该店办了8年会员卡的会员。
据当地媒体报道,事发当天,奥茨(Tshyrad
Oates)前去健身房找他的朋友一起运动,而他也向健身房申请了一张为期4天的体验卡后入内运动,但这期间却不断被店内员工“歧视骚扰”。
奥茨在社交网络上写道,当他开始运动大约半小时后,一名女员工上前告知他必须付费或离开健身房。他和朋友向店员解释他们都是有卡进来运动的,但随后赶来的值班经理执意将他们赶出健身房,并拨打电话叫来了警察。
警方赶到后,奥茨和朋友在他们的见证下将会员卡重新扫描,店内电脑显示两张卡都在有效期内。但经理拒绝接受这一事实,并在此过程中数次阻止奥茨拍摄。“经理并没有给我们一个合理的解释,为什么赶我们走。他甚至禁止我再次进入这家健身房,并终止了我朋友8年的会员资格。”
奥茨在多次据理力争无果后,视频自拍说:“这根本就是种族歧视!我们是健身房里仅有的两个黑人,这几个月中一直平白无故遇到各种各样的麻烦。”
事后,迫于舆论压力,洛杉矶健身中心18日发表声明指出,目前已向顾客道歉,且明确表示他们的会员资格仍具效力。另外,涉事的3名分店员工也已被开除。
