据悉，31岁的准新娘奈丽扎 •弗加斯(Neriza Fojas)是加利福尼亚州中部城市夫勒斯诺市的一名护士，她即将在6月举行婚礼。5月4日晚出事时，她正在加长豪华轿车里与九位朋友一起开告别单身派对。
轿车起火部位位于后备箱，司机发现后备箱冒烟后，立刻靠边停车。但火势发展十分迅猛，不一会儿，轿车就淹没在火焰之中。准新娘和其他四位友人被困在车后部，而侥幸逃脱的四名女子均被严重烧伤，唯有司机安然无恙。
警方随后封锁了海湾大桥的西行路段，以便查明莫名大火的原因。四位伤者分别在斯坦福医院和圣何塞山谷医疗中心进行抢救。
